Day 1 · Sunday, November 1

The PRETTY Service Project.

Every contestant serves before she campaigns. One act of service that makes an impact on someone's life, done with the women who support her, and shared on Day 1 in her pink Service Look.

How to do it well

Serve first. Then share it.

  1. 1Choose a real need

One act of service that makes an impact on someone's life. Ask the place you will serve what they actually need.

  2. 2Gather your women

Invite a small group of women who support you. No one available? You can serve on your own.

  3. 3Get permission

Ask the shelter, home, pantry or church before you come, and ask whether you may take photos and video.

  4. 4Wear your Service Look

A pink shirt and black slacks or bottoms. The P31 PRETTY service shirt is optional.

  5. 5Serve, and take proof photos

Photos of you and your group serving. Never photograph a child's face without a parent's permission, and never photograph someone who did not agree.

  6. 6Film your Day 1 video

Under two minutes: what you did, who it served, and the life it touched. Film it before November 1.

  7. 7Upload your photos

In your portal, under Service Project. Nationals approve them for the photo wall, and they count toward Best PRETTY Service Project.

  8. 8Post it on Day 1

Sunday, November 1: post your service video in your pink Service Look, with your voting link.

Ideas

Where you could serve.

Care kits for a women's shelter

Toiletries, socks and a handwritten note in a zip bag. Call the shelter first and ask what they need.

A nursing home visit

Bring cards, read scripture, paint nails, or simply sit and listen. Ask the home's activity director first.

A food pantry shift

Sort, pack and serve with your group. Most pantries welcome groups on weekends.

Back-to-school or dorm kits

Supplies, snacks and a note of encouragement for students in your community.

A community clean-up

A park, a church yard or a street. Gloves, bags and permission from whoever is in charge.

Encouragement cards

Write cards for a hospital, a shelter or a women's recovery home, and deliver them together.

The Service Look

A pink shirt and black slacks or bottoms. The P31 PRETTY service shirt is optional; any pink shirt works.

Video 1: your PRETTY Service Project. You and your small group serving, and the life it touched. Film it before November 1 and post it on Day 1.
